Hello, I am visiting in Istanbul now. I would like to meet other spearfishers here to understand the rules, what the diving situation is like etc. I have dived for 30 years in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, South Africa, Morocco etc., so very experienced spearfisher. I know it is not allowed to spearfish here as a foreigner, but I am happy to come with other spearfishermen and just video them with GoPro to see what the conditions here are like. I may get a residence permit here and will then get a license, but I need to see if the diving is good before I do that.
Are there any clubs that I can join, or any divers who would like to meet?
Welcome to Istanbul, Nick. The sea water temperatures of countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, South Africa and Morocco are warmer than the sea of Marmara. Sea of Marmara Sea temperature decreases by 07 degrees in December, January, February and March. If your diving equipment is suitable for the weather conditions in Istanbul, we can plan diving at a future time (on my suitable day off).
Welcome to İstanbul and the forum website. I can join you guys for the meeting and be your sidekick for diving from the surface 🤣 im having some healt issues nowadays so i will be off from diving for alittle while. Btw i hope your expectations are not high for Marmara. 😆
Thanks so much guys - I appreciate the warm welcome 😀
I did bring equipment for cold water - full 7mm wetsuit, gloves and boots. I would really like to go out for a dive with someone who knows the local situation and I am available whenever suits you. I'm staying in Kadikoy now. I'm ok to rent a car and drive somewhere and take someone with if you like - I was thinking the Black Sea area like Sile?
I thought I would share some more pictures from diving in Australia, plus some old ones from when I dived the Mediterranean 15 years ago - I was younger lol.
@sonertas I'm planning to be here at least a few more weeks, also to explore the black sea, then down to Antalya. I'm considering to stay in Turkey long term, so I need to see if the diving is ok. I cannot stay if I cannot dive, I will go crazy lol
If your road ever crosses with my beloved Alanya ( Region in Antalya) I'd like to meet you and give you some hints about the current situation and maybe we could dive together. If your goal is to live a long-term vacation-like life in Turkey, I strongly suggest you come to Alanya. You can find my İnstagram incase if I won't check my inbox in this forum.
And please do not come to an assessment before diving in the Mediterranean sea 🙂
@mermaidbanger Ok thanks Ferhat - yes let's keep in contact for when I come to Alanya and Antalya. I heard the diving there is good
@spin Arkadas turkiyeye australiyadan gelmis, benim elimden tutun diyor, denize goturun, beraber dalalim , dalmazsam olurum buralarda tutunamam fln diyor..
